Dec 6, 2018 The insulin signaling pathway is a modulator of metabolism in insects conserved key regulator of the intracellular insulin signaling cascade.
Aug 14, 2020 The activation of second messengers, small molecules that propagate a signal, is a common event after the induction of a signaling pathway.
Together, Raf, MEK, and the ERKs make up a three-tiered kinase signaling pathway called a mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) cascade. (A mitogen is a signal that causes cells to undergo mitosis, or divide.) The intracellular signalling cascade in a cancer cell begins with the activation of a membrane receptor (with tyrosine kinase activity) when the latter binds with its ligand or through an external stimulus (e.g. change in osmosis, oxidative stress, lack of nutrients, etc.). To characterize the caspase-9 signaling cascade in intact cells, we employed chemically induced dimerization to activate caspase-9 specifically. Dimerization of caspase-9 led to rapid activation of effector caspases, including caspases-3, -6 and -7, as well as initiator caspases, including caspases-2, -8 and -10, in H9 and Jurkat cells. Several small molecules within the cell act as intracellular messengers (also known as second messengers).

Among the five distinct intracellular Signal transduction is the mechanism by which extracellular physiochemical stimuli are transmitted via a signaling cascade into intracellular signals that orchestrate the appropriate response such as changes in cell metabolism, enzyme activity, gene expression or ion-channel activity. To understand the mechanism behind this observation, we consider a reaction-diffusion model of an intracellular signaling cascade and investigate the effect on the signaling of intracellular regulation in the form of a small release of phosphorylated signaling protein, kinase, and/or phosphatase. This animation reviews the classical and alternative NF-kappaB pathways that can be targeted for inhibition.
These communications between cells triggers intracellular signaling cascades, termed signal transduction pathways, that regulate specific cellular functions. Each signal transduction occurs with a primary extracellular messenger that binds to a transmembrane or nuclear receptor, initiating intracellular signals.
